On Monday, July 29, 2024, the Summer Penal Chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance postponed the case of Abir Moussi, president of the Free Destourian Party, and denied her release. Moussi faces trial under Decree 54 following a complaint by the Independent High Authority for Elections over a media statement she made over a year ago.

Moussi has begun a hunger strike to protest her exclusion from the upcoming presidential election on October 6. Her defense committee reports that her health is deteriorating due to the obstacles to her candidacy and the treatment she has received.
