Delta Health Commissioner Dr. Joseph Onojaeme reported seven deaths, mainly children, due to a cholera epidemic affecting eight local government areas: Warri South, Warri Southwest, Warri North, Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Bomadi, Burutu, and Patani. In Warri Southwest, 138 cases were recorded during the first outbreak, with additional cases in Bomadi and Oshimili South. Over the past six weeks, 20 cases were recorded in Warri South. The disease, caused by poor hygiene and spread through infected water and food, leads to watery stool, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalance.
