As of 1:00 PM on August 23, 2024, the General Directorate of Civil Protection provided an update on ongoing forest and vegetation fires across Algeria. Several fires have been reported, prompting swift action from emergency teams.
In the Aït Allaoua forest in Tizi Ouzou, a fire has been fully contained by Civil Protection teams. In Jijel province, two fires are currently being managed: one in the Kbibat area of Djimla commune affecting brushlands, and another in the Akhrouf region of El Milia commune impacting forested areas.
In addition to forest fires, agricultural fires have also been reported. In Béjaïa, a fire destroyed an orchard in the Mounja district but was quickly extinguished. A similar fire in the Hammam Dalaa district of M’Sila province affected fruit orchards but caused no significant damage. In Bordj Bou Arréridj, a fire along National Road 05 damaged fruit trees in Lichbour but was controlled by Civil Protection teams.
