On July 24, 2024, heavy rains in the Gorgol region led to the collapse of the recently restored Monguel Dam. Additionally, flooding caused the partial collapse of the Njekoudi bridge on the road connecting Lexeiba to Azguilem, detaching it from the paved road. Gorgol is a region in southern Mauritania, located near the border with Senegal.
