Incident Date: July 25, 2024
Instability Rating Max 5.0: 4.00
DESCRIPTION::

On July 25, 2024, heavy fighting broke out between the Malian Army (FAMA), supported by Wagner Group mercenaries, and the CSP (Cadre Stratégique pour la Défense du Peuple de l'Azawad) rebels. The clashes occurred in the Achibrich area near Tinzaouatène, close to the Algerian border.

The Malian forces had recently announced the capture of Inafarak and have been conducting patrols along the border. The rebels reported intense fighting and the destruction of at least one Malian military vehicle. As of now, the fighting has ceased, and the Malian Army has not yet issued an official statement. This incident marks the first significant confrontation since the Malian Army and Wagner captured Kidal, a CSP stronghold, in November of the previous year.
