Egypt: One killed, six arrested in gun battle on Egypt-Israel border

A gunfire broke out near Nitzana, Israel, along the border crossing separating Egypt and Israel. The incident, which involved more than a dozen people, resulted in the death of one person. Six people were arrested. The Egyptian authorities insist that the incident was related to a drug trafficking gang, however, there has been palpable tension due to the ongoing violent conflict in the region with many fearing such event could amplify the crisis. Egyptian sources say the gang attempted to cross into Israel. They added that it was a drug smuggling operation that carried 174 kilograms of drugs.  The Nitzana crossing is currently used by the Israeli military to monitor the aid that enters the Gaza strip.
