Nigeria: Protests over worsening living conditions in Nigeria

Nigerians in Lagos protested against the escalating cost of living, particularly aggravated by the removal of petrol subsidies in May 2023. The demonstrators, including market traders and youths, gathered in the Ibeju-Lekki area, holding placards criticizing the government's handling of the situation. Some placards called on political figures like Baba Tinubu to intervene. Similar protests have occurred in other states like Kogi, Osun, Niger, and Kano. Prof. Itse Sagay, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, criticized President Bola Tinubu for abruptly removing the fuel subsidy, which he believes contributed to the hardships faced by Nigerians.
