The Anambra State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for the assailants who killed Chief Sylvester Onyima, the President-General of Umuoji Town Union in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The perpetrators, believed to be about 15 gunmen and suspected assassins, invaded Onyima's residence on Friday, shooting him in the bathroom while he was bathing. The incident caused panic in the community, leading to the desertion of major roads and a decrease in activities at the Eke market. Onyima, recently re-elected, was found dead with machete cuts on his body. The motives behind the killing are speculated to be linked to his recent re-election, a land dispute, or communal crises. The police spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that police operatives are on the ground to maintain calm, recover the body, and investigate the crime. This marks the seventh killing of a President-General in recent times in various communities in Anambra State.
