  1. Nigeria: Flash Floods Disrupt Key Highway in Bauchi State
Location:
Bauchi, Nigeria, Nigeria, West Africa
Incident Date: August 22, 2024
Instability Rating Max 5.0: 2.00
DESCRIPTION::

On August 22, 2024, flash floods have cut off the Azare-Ja’amare road along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway in Bauchi State. Governor Bala Mohammed, who inspected the area, reported the situation to the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who had previously visited the site when the road was first threatened.

Governor Mohammed warned that communities could be at risk of being submerged if water flow is not managed properly. This incident follows a severe downpour two weeks prior that damaged another segment of the federal highway between Kano and Maiduguri, particularly around Malori and Guskuri villages in Katagum Local Government Area. The recent floods have created a large crater in the road, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.

The North-East geopolitical zone, including Bauchi, has faced significant flooding in recent weeks, resulting in loss of life and widespread destruction of homes.
