On Wednesday, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated at a local joint in the Kawuri community, Konduga Local Government Area, Borno State, killing at least 19 people. The blast, suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram insurgents, injured numerous residents who were subsequently taken to a hospital in Maiduguri for treatment. The explosion occurred around 8:05 pm as villagers gathered for a night chat at a tea joint.
The attack is part of a recent surge in violence in the region, with several similar incidents reported in recent days, including the deaths of seven Nigerian soldiers. This incident occurred just hours before planned nationwide protests over hunger in Nigeria, set to commence on Thursday across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
