DESCRIPTION::

Bandits attacked Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi Local Government Area in Zamfara State, killing the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) and burning the police station. The assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the town around 5 pm, shooting sporadically and injuring other police officers before setting the station ablaze. The attack reportedly stemmed from the killing of three bandits by vigilantes, prompting retaliation from the bandits. The vigilantes, accompanied by the police, had raided the bandits' camp, leading to the capture and subsequent killing of one bandit. In retaliation, the bandits targeted the police station, suspecting their captured comrade was held there. Military personnel have since arrived in the town, while the bandits have retreated to the forest. Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer for comment were unsuccessful.
