The Nigeria Police Force has issued a warning against displaying foreign flags and calling for a military takeover. Authorities reported violent protests, particularly in Bauchi, Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina states, involve protesters brandishing foreign flags. Over 90 suspects have been arrested, including tailors who made the flags and their sponsors, with efforts underway to apprehend additional sponsors.
The protests have partially subsided following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s address on August 4, 2024. However, some groups continue their protests involving violent acts of looting, and calls for a military takeover.
