In a month of intensive counter-terrorism operations, Nigerian troops killed 572 terrorists and arrested 790 suspects, according to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ). The operations also led to the rescue of 479 kidnapped victims across the country.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, released a statement on Friday detailing the outcomes of the July operations. The troops recovered stolen crude oil valued at over N3 billion and seized a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.
In his statement, Buba noted that 440 firearms and 10,589 rounds of ammunition were confiscated from criminal elements nationwide. The recoveries included 232 AK47 rifles, 93 locally fabricated guns, 82 Dane guns, 32 pump-action guns, 5,041 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 2,768 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 659 cartridges, 63 assorted arms, and 2,259 assorted ammunitions. Additionally, troops seized 3,650,080 litres of stolen crude oil, 625,518 litres of illegally refined AGO, 450 litres of DPK, and 1,230 litres of PMS.
“The military remains committed to its mission of defending the country and protecting citizens. Citizens are urged to maintain their vigilance and not compromise on security,” Buba stated.
