The State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau state, Sylvanus Namang, was assassinated in Pankshin town. He was killed by unidentified gunmen at a relaxation spot on Saturday, February 17. Namang, along with the owner of the joint, Sunny Okonkwo, was gunned down while attending a funeral program. The chairman of the party in the state, Rufus Bature, confirmed the news and stated that an official statement would be issued soon. Namang, a former director of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), had previously served as the spokesman for the APC in the state and as Chief Press Secretary to the late Deputy Senate President Senator Ibrahim Mantu.
