Security services in Niamey apprehended a suspected terrorist and his accomplice in a hotel parking lot. Incriminating documents and a weapon were found in their possession. The suspects were in a private vehicle at the time of their apprehension.
During the subsequent search, a "Tokarev" brand pistol, an identity card, bank and professional cards, court documents, and various effects including a telephone were discovered in the possession of the alleged terrorist. Further investigations uncovered information on exchanges of Defense and Security Forces (FDS) movements between the arrested individual and terrorists via voice messages.
This operation underscores the persistent terrorist threat in the Niger capital. Previous attempted incursions and attacks have been thwarted by security services and the FDS, who remain on high alert.
