- Niger: Authorities seize nearly 2,000 explosive sticks from suspected criminal gang
On February 25, Niger's security services in Boboye (Dosso region) seized 1,980 explosive sticks from two individuals on motorcycles in Fabidji. One suspect was apprehended, while the other escaped. The governor of Dosso, Brigadier General Iro Oumarou, highlighted the shift in tactics by armed bandits, who now conceal ammunition as fuel. This alarming development indicates that drug traffickers are turning to weapons of war. The governor urged cooperation with Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and emphasized the need for public support in the fight against armed bandits. The seizure occurred amid a growing insecurity in Niger, with recent discoveries of war arsenals in Niamey and Tesker, emphasizing the urgent need for increased vigilance and collaboration between authorities and the population to ensure national security.
