Incident Date:
February 6, 2024
Instability Rating Max 5.0:
3.50
DESCRIPTION::
Public services, particularly health units, closed down in Quissanga and Bilibiza towns in northern Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province due to the presence of insurgent groups nearby. The closure was prompted by reports of terrorists occupying nearby villages, causing fear among residents. While occupying the villages of Nacoba and Mussamero, the terrorists did not commit acts of violence but instead asked villagers to inform the Mozambican defense forces that they were passing through without seeking confrontation. The presence of terrorists disrupted traffic along Quissanga roads and halted boat operations during the incident.
