Insurgents attacked the Magaia community in Chiure district, Cabo Delgado province, Mozambique, resulting in at least four fatalities, according to local residents cited by the Portuguese news agency Lusa. The attackers reportedly arrived on Saturday morning, opening fire and killing individuals working in their fields. The jihadists also destroyed the local school and set numerous houses on fire. Frightened villagers from Magaia are fleeing to the district capital, Chiure town, leading to a significant increase in displaced people in the area.

This wave of terrorist attacks began on February 3, with jihadists entering the region from the neighboring Mecufi district. The Chiure district administrator, Oliveira Amimo, reported that the terrorists previously attacked the Mazeze administrative post, where they targeted a Catholic Church chapel, burned down the local health center, the administrative post's secretariat, and the head's residence.

The self-styled "Islamic State" (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack in Chiure and boasted of attacks in Macomia district, where at least 20 people were killed. The IS also claimed an attack on a Mozambican Armed Forces (FADM) position in Mucojo administrative post, about 45 kilometers from Macomia town, on the night of February 9, where they reportedly seized the position.
