On August 11, 2024, Mozambican police used tear gas against a Renamo march in Gurue, Zambezia province. The march aimed to introduce Renamo's gubernatorial candidate, Manuel de Araujo. This incident occurred during a seminar on election disputes attended by local judges, prosecutors, and police officers. Araujo condemned the police action as illegal and unconstitutional. Three Renamo members were injured and treated at a local hospital. The Zambezia police commander stated there was no intention to ban the march but mentioned a possible dispute over the agreed route. Araujo plans to file an official complaint.
