Mozambique's National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) has arrested two Mozambican nationals in Maputo for their alleged involvement in two kidnappings of business people. One case involves the ongoing captivity of a businessman who owns Armazéns Atlântico Comercial, abducted in January. The second case concerns the kidnapping of a businessman's wife in November 2023, with the victim already released. SERNIC spokesperson Hilário Lole explained that the arrests were facilitated by investigations into a series of kidnappings affecting businesspeople since 2011. The suspects were found with vehicle registration plates linking them to the November 2023 kidnapping. The arrests were made possible through the collaboration of another individual held in connection with the same crime. The suspects have denied the accusations against them. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend any additional accomplices in these cases.
