Supporters of the Democratic Alliance Coalition (CAD) marched through several Mozambican cities, including Maputo, protesting the National Elections Commission's (CNE) decision to bar CAD from participating in the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections on October 9. CAD, backing independent presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane, a former Renamo leader, called on the Constitutional Council to overturn the CNE's ruling. The marches were largely peaceful, with minor police interference in Tete. Mondlane, currently touring Europe to garner support, did not attend the marches.
