Mozambique: Man Kidnapped in Mocímboa da Praia

A fisherman was kidnapped by suspected Islamist terrorists on Monday night in Kalugo village, Mocímboa da Praia district, Cabo Delgado province. The incident occurred while the victim and three other fishermen were fishing off Lucheti and Kalugo villages. The other three escaped by swimming to shore and alerting authorities. The kidnappers, believed to be from the Quiterajo administrative post in Macomia district, approached without using a motorized boat, allowing them to get close unnoticed. Mozambican defense and security forces suspect the terrorists have active bases along the Messalo river in Mucojo administrative post. The villages are near Mbau, where terrorists recently attempted an unsuccessful attack.
