Insurgents killed two people and kidnapped another at the Chai administrative post in Macomia district, Cabo Delgado province. The attack took place at the headquarters of the Chai post, which has faced numerous terrorist attacks and raids recently. The terrorists previously targeted the administrative post in January, destroying and looting crops.
The Chai administrative post, situated on the N380 national road, is strategically important and is defended by Mozambican forces and allies from Rwanda. Recent attacks by terrorists in other districts, such as Mecufi and Metuge, resulted in casualties and captures.
Since 2017, Cabo Delgado has been grappling with terrorist attacks, leading to military responses supported by Rwanda and the Military Mission in Mozambique of the Southern African Development Community. The conflict has displaced a million people, and approximately 4,000 deaths have been reported.
