DESCRIPTION::
Insurgents ambushed a joint patrol of Mozambican soldiers and local militia near Pemba, killing at least two soldiers and injuring several others. The attack occurred in the Mecufi district of Cabo Delgado province, close to vital highways connecting Pemba to mining areas and Nampula province. Prior to the ambush, insurgents also attacked a nearby village, kidnapping civilians and burning homes. The violence prompted nearly 100 people to flee to coastal villages in Mecufi.
