The owner of Armazéns Atlântico, abducted in central Maputo on January 20, 2024, remains in captivity. The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) presented two individuals suspected of involvement in this kidnapping and another on November 1, 2023. SERNIC spokesperson Hilário Lole explained the challenges in solving such cases, noting that those who carry out the kidnapping may differ from those transporting the victim or holding them captive. Despite ongoing efforts to rescue the 70-year-old businessman, he has not been freed. Two individuals, aged 45 and 33, were presented to the press as alleged participants in the kidnappings. While they admit knowing individuals involved, they deny personal involvement. SERNIC found vehicle plates allegedly used in the raids in their possession. The captives were not rescued this time, in contrast to the case of Zakia Dassat, who was abducted on November 1, 2023, and rescued 51 days later.
