The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in Mozambique recently incinerated approximately 76 kg of cannabis sativa, also known as ‘soruma’, in the town of Missevene, MatutuĂne district, Maputo province. The drugs were seized in operations conducted by SERNIC and other police forces last year as part of efforts to combat drug consumption and trafficking in the region. SERNIC spokesperson Henrique Mendes highlighted the increased circulation of this type of drug due to its low cost and easy accessibility. Mendes encouraged communities to report drug dens and plantations to facilitate police efforts in combating drug-related crimes.
