Residents of Intutupue in Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province reported panic after spotting alleged terrorists in the village early Sunday morning. The armed men, seen around 3:00 a.m., caused some locals to flee into the woods. The day before, these groups had passed through Quissanga, closing main roads and causing widespread fear. No fatalities have been reported, but the frequent presence of these groups continues to alarm residents.
Cabo Delgado has faced an armed rebellion since October 2017, linked to the extremist group Islamic State. President Filipe Nyusi recently stated that defense forces, including the Rwandan military and southern African countries' mission, have dismantled nearly all terrorist bases, forcing the insurgents into a nomadic existence.
