On August 28, 2024, a protest is scheduled in the town center to express dissatisfaction with the perceived lack of support from authorities following a recent earthquake.
Residents report significant deterioration in living conditions since the earthquake, citing ineffective support measures. Many have not received adequate aid for rebuilding their homes, with the compensation amounts falling short of the damage incurred. Although support for fully destroyed homes was promised at 140,000 dirhams, many have received only 80,000 dirhams, which is insufficient for reconstruction.
Additionally, delays in housing aid and a shortage of medical infrastructure and personnel have exacerbated the situation. As the first anniversary of the earthquake approaches, residents continue to live in precarious conditions, including tents, with damaged local infrastructure and public services adding to their daily challenges.
