The Association of Moroccan Bar Associations (ABAM) declared a three-day national strike from 23 to 26 July 2024, in response to the rapid adoption of amendments to Act No. 02.23 on civil procedure by the Justice, Legislation, and Human Rights Commission. ABAM criticizes these changes as regressive, fearing they may affect legal rights and certainty in Morocco. Despite being open to dialogue, ABAM President Houssine Ziani expressed surprise at the expedited review process and criticized provisions like capping appeals and introducing the "appeal for annulment." ABAM pledges to continue dialogue and propose alternatives to ensure fair access to justice, with further protest actions planned.
