Mauritania: Persistent Water Shortage in Basra

The ongoing water shortage, a severe issue for over a year in Basra (Sebkha), has returned. Several neighborhoods in the western suburbs have been without running water for five days, frustrating residents. This crisis is especially challenging during the summer heat. Historically, water supply in Basra has been sporadic, with residents accessing water every third day at late hours. In recent weeks, the situation has worsened, leaving people without water daily, forcing them to find alternative means to obtain potable water.
