Burkina Faso: Russian nuclear company evaluates power project in Burkina Faso

A delegation from the Russian nuclear company Rosatom visited Burkina Faso from August 6-9 to assess the feasibility of building a nuclear power plant. This visit follows a 2023 agreement between the Burkinabè and Russian governments to construct the plant. The discussions focused on technical aspects and selecting a secure site, given the ongoing jihadist violence in the region. Burkina Faso aims to address its significant energy deficit, with only 22.5% of the population currently having access to electricity.
