The Director General of the National Police, Roger Ouédraogo, has ordered the suspension of all activities of the Group of Mobile Intervention Units of the National Police (GUMI) 9 in the Eastern region. This decision, dated February 22, 2024, requires the police officers of GUMI 9 to immediately lay down their weapons and equipment and report to the CRS Camp in Ouagadougou on Monday, February 26, at 7 a.m. The reasons given for this action include the abandonment of positions and participation in a coordinated work stoppage. The move follows a violent attack on GUMI 9 elements in Yamba, Gourma province, prompting them to retreat to Fada N'Gourma. The creation of GUMI was decreed on October 25, 2023, with the aim of providing legal security and improving the living and working conditions of its members.
