In a year-end offensive carried out by the Burkina Faso military from December 23, 2023 to January 2, 2024 in the East and Center-East regions, involving air and land assets, allegedly claimed the lives of 360 suspected terrorists. Authorities say terror chief Oumarou Dicko known as Abu Mohamado, who oversaw the Tapoa province, was killed during the campaign.

The deadliest day was the 24 December when 208 terror suspects were eliminated, according to Burkina’s military. The army intervened after insurgents staged an ambush against a supply convoy in Diapaga in the Eastern region. Three senior figures of the insurgency were reportedly among those killed.

In the previous day (23 December) 83 terror suspects were killed during the offensive that focused on six locations within the Nouhao forest in the Center-East region, identified as hideout for insurgents.

The new year 2024 started with the reported elimination of 67 terrorist fighters when the latter tried to ambush a Diapaga supply convoy, near the commune of Kantchari.
