Niger: Clash in Niger: Fifteen Soldiers and Twenty-One Terrorists Killed in Tillabéri Region

At least fifteen Niger soldiers were killed in a clash between defense and security forces (FDS) and suspected terrorist attackers on Monday, July 22, 2024, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense released on Tuesday. The skirmish occurred near Fonéko, on the Bankilaré-Téra axis in the Tillabéri region. In the same engagement, twenty-one terrorists were also killed during the confrontations and subsequent sweeps in the tri-border area near the Burkina Faso border, where Nigerien forces have recently intensified military operations in response to increased attacks by terrorist groups, mainly JNIM and ISIS.
