The British authorities have issued travel advisories against all travel to the northern Cabo Delgado province in Mozambique, citing attacks by groups with links to Islamist extremism. The advisory includes districts such as Mueda, Nangade, Palma (except Palma town), Mocímboa da Praia, Muidumbe, Meluco, Macomia, Quissanga, and Ibo, including the coastal islands. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) also recommends against all but essential travel to the rest of Cabo Delgado Province due to the security situation. Similar advice is given for the districts of Memba and Eráti in the neighboring Nampula province. The French Embassy in Mozambique has also advised French citizens against traveling to Mocímboa da Praia, Pemba, and Palma due to the terrorist threat. The President of Mozambique expressed discomfort with France's appeal and expected support from French authorities in combating terrorism. The multinational TotalEnergies' gas project near Palma remains suspended since 2021 due to terrorist attacks. Recent hours have seen hundreds of people fleeing the south of Cabo Delgado towards Nampula due to intensified terrorist attacks, with reports of attacks, kidnappings, and demands for money by insurgent groups in the region. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for several recent attacks in Macomia and Chiúre, documenting them through propaganda channels.
