Lebanon: Three UN peacekeepers injured in explosion near their vehicle in the Yarine

Three UN peacekeepers were lightly injured on Sunday morning when an explosion occurred near their vehicle in the Yarine area of southern Lebanon, according to a statement from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The peacekeepers, who were on patrol, returned safely to their base, and an investigation into the incident is underway. UNIFIL emphasized that all parties must avoid harming peacekeepers and civilians. A UNIFIL source suggested that the explosion was likely caused by a nearby airstrike, though it was not a direct hit. UNIFIL's mandate, which expires at the end of the month, is expected to be renewed by the UN Security Council for another year.
