DESCRIPTION::
Tunisia's DGGH branch of the security services reported on January 20, 2024, the arrest of 22 suspected Islamist militants known as "takfirists", who were wanted and convicted of terrorism. The suspects were previously sentenced between one and 13 years in prison for belonging to a terrorist organization. They were arrested during various enforcement operations in Kasserine, Sfax, Kairouan, Tataouine, Sousse, Bizerte, Jendouba, Sidi Bouzid, Ariana, Fouchana and Nabeul. They were placed in detention on the orders of the Public Prosecutor's Office, pending further proceedings.
