Location:
Emure, Ekiti, Nigeria, Nigeria, West Africa
Incident Date: February 4, 2024

DESCRIPTION::

The kidnapped pupils and a staff member from Apostolic Faith School in Ekiti have been rescued, with the rescue operation occurring in the early hours of Sunday. They were abducted from their school bus on January 29 while heading to Emure-Ekiti, with the driver found dead. Police spokesperson Abutu Sunday confirmed the rescue but stated that the driver was suspected to have been killed by the abductors. This incident reflects a concerning trend of kidnapping for ransom and killings by unknown gunmen across Nigeria, including recent attacks on traditional rulers in Ekiti and Kwara states and a spate of abductions in border communities near Abuja.
