On Thursday, a head-on collision between two buses in central Mali resulted in 16 deaths and 48 injuries, with six individuals in critical condition. The accident occurred in Ouan, in the San region, between a bus from Fakala Transport coming from Mopti and another from Ascofaré Transport traveling in the opposite direction. All injured passengers were transported to the San reference health center by civil protection officers. The Ministry of Transport cited excessive speed and driver negligence as likely causes and has initiated an investigation into the accident.
In a separate incident in Senegal, another bus accident near Ndouloumadji and Ourossogui, close to the Mauritanian border, resulted in six deaths and 14 injuries, with seven people in serious condition. Road accidents are common in both Mali and Senegal, often attributed to poor road conditions, vehicle maintenance issues, and human error.
