DESCRIPTION::

The National Agricultural Observatory (ONAGRI) reported a significant increase in prices for basic goods at the Bir El Kassaa wholesale market in June 2024 compared to June 2023. Prices of fruits such as onions rose by 189%, apples by 3%, watermelons by 94%, flat peaches by 81%, round peaches by 63%, grapes by 33%, plums by 33%, melons by 31%, figs by 25%, and green almonds by 5%. Some fruits saw price decreases, including apricots by 9%, strawberries by 18%, and citrus fruits by 64%.

Vegetable prices also increased significantly. Peppers and other varieties rose by 60%, zucchinis by 44%, parsley by 32%, hot peppers by 28%, cucumbers by 16%, potatoes by 11%, and tomatoes by 4%.

Fish prices saw similar trends, with whiting increasing by 50%, mackerel by 48%, mullet by 40%, red mullet by 24%, sardines by 20%, and cuttlefish by 7%. Only a few types of fish saw price decreases.
